Fluvial system represents one of the main natural environment of the earth and its process-form relationships contribute to modeling the physical landscape. Long- to short-term fluvial dynamics is strongly controlled by climate and tectonics interactions which regulated the discharge of channel networks. In addition, large contribution to the modification of fluvial system comes from anthropogenic activities, which in many cases can modify strongly the fluvial landscape. Furthermore, climate changes occurred in the last decades increased fluvial discharges thus triggering high-magnitude events. In this perspective, the analysis of fluvial systems is always relevant and needs to be detailed.
The questions to answer in the Special Issue are on the role played by climate changes and human activities on the source-to-sink modification of the fluvial landscape.
The new perspective in approaching fluvial systems requires multidisciplinary investigation starting from classical analyses. This means that knowledges coming from researchers must involve experts of several disciplines including geomorphology, ecology, engineering, and economy. Papers which combine field surveys and modeling elaborations, and suggest new multidisciplinary approaches are welcomed.
